I reread "Fresh Elastic for stretched out moms recently.
I received the book in 1986 when we were having educational problems for our deaf child. I was encouraged by Barbara's sense of humor -- even when she was on the ceiling. We were often in the basement and praying to reach the ceiling. Until I found the website, I didn't know that Barbara had passed away. My sympathy to her family.

I just read Barbara Johnson's "Stick a Geranium in you hat and be Happy". It brought me so much joy in such a tough time. I am sad to hear of her passing. I feel like a missed a great oppurtunity to meet a wonderful woman.

I read my first Barbara Johnson book 7 years ago when my cousin who lives in California sent me "Splashes of Joy" for my birthday. I was having a bad case of the blues when I received the book and as I read the pages your mothers words gave my heart and my mind the courage to overcome the saddness within me. My Mama went "Home"
" to be with the Lord one month after Barbara ---- i pray they will meet there. It will be a time of great joy and an eternity of life at its best when we all get "home".
What a wondrous experience it will be when we all get to meet & with all those great "saints" waiting for us there.

A very good, and christian friend told me to come to this site, to check it out. I have a gay son, and I also feel as so many have. But, life goes on.
I will continue to take the advice of my friend, and read here. And try to understand, what I don't understand.
Thanks for sharing thoughts I thought I had alone.

I have also read many devotional books over the years and until today had never googled Barbara's name and am just now learning of her death last July. To her familly I want to tell you what a legend your mother must have left to you and so many people in this world. What a testimony her life has been to honor and glorify our Lord!
I am so glad to know her work continues through the Foundation.
She has helped me so much personally and reminds me through her books of humor how God is so much in the details of our lives and wants us to experience joy on a daily basis...no matter what comes our way.

Hi again, I just wanted to add and forgot before, in her "He's gonna toot..." book she talks about "splashes of joys". I went out and bought my own splashes and did up notes about them and handed them out one week at church when I had the prelims for the adults. I keep some with me to give to strangers when I feel they may need one. What a great thing to do, "splashes". It is awesome to see someones face light up when they get one.

Barbara's sense of humour helped me get through the very worst times of coming to terms with this frightening and unknown territory.

Hi, I did a search for Barbara Johnson and came across this site... I am in shock. I didn't know Barbara had died!! I had a letter I wrote a few years ago to send and I didn't know an address to send it to. I had bought her book, "He's gonna toot and I'm Gonna scoot". I loved it!!! I loved the way she wrote her books. I had even given one to my mum about packing up your gloomies. I am going to miss her books. I will be re-reading the one I have and many others. My sympathies go to the family. God Bless. - De-anne
